CHRISTY'S CORNERS

Golly, I thought that the April 6th meeting would have to be cancelled but thank goodness it wasn't as bad as it looked. Anyway, we had a small, brave turnout and enjoyed doing the cherries with Carol Rand. I want to thank Carol for donating two packages of note cards with the cherries painted on them, which were in a draw with the 50/50. I know the ladies who won were very pleased!

This was a free day of painting for the Festival of Trees and we had both sessions going at the same time. There are still lots of decorations ready for painting, so next month, please sign up for them. We need your help & Beryl Munshaw & her committee need your help to make this year's tree as spectacular as ever. The Ennismore Seniors are having a paint-in to help with the ornaments thanks to Barb Brown.

The Social Committee put on a lovely display of goodies, plus Easter bunnies and eggs. The eggs, painted by Nicki Tasch, were a real topic of interest….beautiful work, Nicki! One of these days, we should try to paint Easter eggs. It looks like an interesting challenge.

By the time you get this newsletter, the bus will have gone to C2C. We have 30 members going & Gloria really appreciates all of them supporting this bus. Several members normally drive on their own or attend classes but this year they agreed to take the bus. Gloria is relieved that the price of $30 covering the bus & entry fee didn't have to be increased or the bus cancelled. I am sure anyone not going is going to miss a great day.

At the C2C trade show, we'll have a table showing samples of our paintings, plus a brochure on our Guild. Many thanks to our Vice-President Lin Jarvis for her work on this project, and thanks for the Oakville Chapter of SDP - Harbourside Painters of Canada for inviting us to promote KGFP in their booth.

Well I guess that's it for now. Here's hoping you all had a HAPPY EASTER.

Helen Christy, President.

GUILD BUSINESs

JUNE 8TH - CLOSING LUNCHEON

Luncheon tickets will be available at the May meeting. Tickets are $15 per person and must be purchased prior to the end of May to allow time to supply the caterers with numbers. If you are unable to purchase your ticket at the May meeting, call Vice-President Lin Jarvis at 705-743-7763. The entré will be stuffed chicken. Arrangements are being made for a CPR demonstration and discussion of heart attacks and strokes.

Memory Boxes

There is always a need for Memory Boxes for the Maternal Bereavement Program at our local hospital. Perhaps you could paint one or two for us in the upcoming months. You can get a papermache box at no cost to you from Lyn Chaplin. The boxes now come in sets of five. The smallest one is not suitable for a Memory Box, but we will still paint them up and donate them to the hospital gift shop. You can use any design you want, but it should be non-denominational and non-seasonal. The hospital is very appreciative of our painted boxes. Let's keep up the good work!

The Festival of Trees 2009

The theme this year is "Poinsettias'. We anticipate having the pattern packets ready for the March meeting so thatyou can take some home to work on before the April meeting.

Our official F.O.T.paint-in will be the April meeting, so bring your brushes and paints and we will paint up a storm.

Prep Work Before Class

Because there was a very small attendance at the April meeting, most members will not have picked up their ceramic box. Therefore, prep work will have to be done as soon as you receive it. Check it over to see if there are any really rough spots on the ceramic. If so, sand lightly with a very fine grain sandpaper. Do not "polish" it as you will need the natural tooth of the ceramic for the paint to adhere to. Wipe off any sanding dust and apply one good coat of all purpose sealer. The sealer will sink into the ceramic and make "boo boos" easier to correct. Hopefully it will dry by the time the business meeting is over so you can apply your pattern. The colour of the ceramic bisque will be your background colour.

If you already have your ceramic box, prior to class, follow the above instructions, and then apply two even coats of a pale pastel colour of your choice. Do not use white as we will be using white for highlighting.

The muffins and other goodies for the March and April meetings will be provided by the following members. Our thanks to them for the tasty treats.
