HISTORY OF THE BUILDING
The building located at 100 Head Street was purchased in the fall of 1995. Immediately after purchase, the "seniors" volunteered their time to completely renovate the former home, also adding an additional 2000 square feet. Other than heating, air-conditioning and plumbing, all labour was done by the membership of the club eliminating 95% of the labour cost.
The building is fully accessable to the physically challeged.
The facility can accomodate 120 people for catering purposes and is a smoke-free environment. All the funds for this venture were donated by the members (approximately 500) and various businesses in the Village. The total project cost approximately $200,000 and is completely debt free.
HISTORY OF THE BOBCAYGEON SENIOR CITIZENS CENTRE INC.

1963 the Bobcaygeon Senior Citizens Club was formed and it's first president was Harry Taylor. Harry is gone but certainly not forgotten. The Club operated then from the Royal Canadian Legion building, holding Wednesday afternoon card games and other social and fund-raising events. Also exchanging visits with the Fenelon Falls Seniors and other district Seniors.

When the old post office became available, the Seniors made an arrangement with the Trent-Severn Waterway whereby a small annual rental fee was paid and the Seniors would pay all ongoing expenses such as taxes, hydro, insurance and inside upkeep expenses. With good management, the group flourished and provided recreation for it's members and continued to hold fund-raising events to cover the necessary expenses.

It was during this time that an amicable and economic partnership began with Meals-On-Wheels, a dedicated volunteer group of individuals determined to provide meals at low cost. This partnership continues today with the preparation of food being done at the Seniors Centre.

Around 1990 it was decided that a larger facility was required due to the fact that activities had expanded and attendance increased. For example, the two line dancing groups had to utilize the Trinity Hall and the Royal Canadian Legion to perform their activity. A steering committee was established to look into the possibilities of relocating and this group was eventualy known as the `Focus Group'. When it was determined that the property at 100 Head Street was to be purchased, the group name was changed to the `New Building Committee' and continues to operate under the able leadership of Jennie Legault. From this group, Bill Dicks and Marty Henricks came up with the idea of renovations and additions to the building being done by volunteer help to make the project financially viable.

Bill was making plans and obtaining the best prices possible to complete the building long before there was legal possession. Along with Marty Henricks, he supervised the work done and the work contracted from November 3 1995 to the end of February 1996. Another volunteer who deserves recognition for her time and effort is Lynda Jackson. While the building was under contruction, noon-time meals were provided by a group of ladies under the direction of Mary Spencer.

Back in 1993, the Seniors Board arranged Incorporation, and became known as The Bobcaygeon Senior Citizens Centre Inc. They also became a non-profit, charitable organization with the sole purpose of providing recreation for people 50 years and over, and also to aid financially other organizations of the community. It is the sincere desire of all members that this role is fulfilled.
