  5. 'Round the Table
    1. Norton Antivirus

      (a) Pop-up message keeps appearing saying Norton is out of date, but the programme then can't access the internet.

Solution (Paul): The problem could be spyware, or spyware blockers: eg. Spybot.

Suggest downloading Microsoft Anti-spyware programme (about 6MB, requires regular data updates)

      (b) Message "Norton AntiVirus is inactive" appears.

Solution (Paul): ensure that Norton is activated in the Start menu: Run MSCONFIG (from Start / Run) and check the list on the Startup tag.

    2. Voice Over Internet

Using skype.com Chris "phoned" another Skype user (Keith in BC). Skype is a new voice-over-internet service. You can register and contact other Skype users for free (ie. computer-to-computer same as other IRC programmes, such as MSN, Yahoo or Trillian). For a low fee, you can use the programme to "phone" any telephone from your computer (ie. computer-to-telephone).

    3. Blogging

Has anyone created a "blog" site?

  6. Presentation

Create your own radio station on a web site. Visitors can download the programming onto their iPods. (Sample at www.cbc.ca/nerd/halifax_podcasting.mp3)

    (b) iMovie

Can be used to combine audio, video, still photos into movies, with special effects and transitions.

    (c) Garage Band

A sound mixer. You can lay down multiple tracks from different sources (eg. line input, synthesizer or guitar, microphone, ...) and adjust tone, volume, etc. on each.
