"Beautiful downtown CoKL...

...on Scugog's scenic shores?

Is it any wonder that there is resentment over the perception that the CoKL is just a renamed Lindsay with some outlying areas thrown in for good measure? A sharp-eyed reader directs our attention to the website of the Ontario East Economic Development Commission (www.oecd.ca). The Commission, an alliance of "over 75 economic development professionals", including our City's own director of economic development, David Amos, hopes to promote the various towns and cities which make up its members. The listing for CoKL would be far more realistic if "Lindsay" was substituted for "City of Kawartha Lakes."

Did you know, for instance, that CoKL is "set on the scenic Scugog River in the heart of the beautiful Kawarthas"? That our thriving cultural community includes "the Kawartha Summer Theatre, the Kawartha Lakes Gallery...the museum continues to grow and the historic Academy Theatre hosts year round activities."

"Two large malls and Kawartha Lakes' diverse service and retail businesses are the focal point for a much larger region. The region is also served by Ross Memorial Hospital."

There you have it. The City of Kawartha Lakes is really just Lindsay (located on the scenic Scugog) plus an outlying "region." They just don't get it.‡
