Truax Newspaper Column
An Offer LTW Can't Refuse?
The Eye Opener has always had respect for the City's Communications/Research Coordinator Judy Currins, going back to Transition Board days. Ms. Currins has drafted a City web site content management policy for Council's consideration. The policy is designed to ensure the integrity of the web site, particularly when requests are being received to include links from the web site to external web sites of other organisations.
Quoting from Ms. Currins' report, "The Policy also provides guidelines for content to ensure that the City web site is used for information purposes only without the inclusion of political opinion or comment."
We note that Mayor Truax is beginning a monthly series of articles in Kawartha Lakes This Week (KLTW), called My View. We certainly hope that Mr. Truax is banging his copy off at home on the old Underwood, on his own time. Otherwise, the taxpayers are paying part of the cost of the "No" campaign in the upcoming de-amalgamation referendum debate through the mayor's salary. We elected a mayor, not a newspaper columnist.
We also have to question the propriety of KLTW offering a column to the mayor of the City which pays advertising revenues to that newspaper.‡
